If you're in Red Lake, Ontario, you can catch The Clean Bin Project on Dec 3rd. If your university already has an educational license, be sure to let us know when you're having public screenings - we'll put it up on our screenings page to help attract more folks.

We have more festivals and community shows coming in the new year. In the meantime, if you're thinking zero waste this holiday season, check out our blog for ideas on low impact gifts and wrapping alternatives.

I headed to Tofino for the Tofino Film Festival and Grant headed to Wichita for the Tallgrass Film Festival. Both of us had fabulous times.

Tofino plays starts playing movies at 4pm, so I had plenty of time for relaxing and beach walking before film watching. The organizers work so hard to get great films and to get directors out to their gorgeous town, and it really showed. I got to see a slew of really good movies including How to Die in Oregon which won the Grand Prize at Sundance, so we were in pretty good company.

Grant missed his connecting flight and ended up renting a car and driving into Wichita at 3:30am, but it was reportedly all uphill from there. Despite his lack of sleep, he participated in a filmmakers meet and greet, a panel discussion, and had Q and A at a sold out screening. When he got home, he wouldn't stop talking about the welcoming people and the abundance of friendly volunteers and great food.

Better yet, although Kansas is apparently the worst state for sustainability, our film was really well recieved, and we garnered runner up for audience choice for Best Documentary!

Top Honors at FilmShift!

We are excited to share that The Clean Bin Project won first prize for Best of Show at the FilmShift Film Festival in Massachusetts!

Bend Oregon is a fabulous town - close to mountains and rivers, film lovers, and everything we love in a community from organic bakeries to outdoor shops. The staff and volunteers at this festival worked overtime to make us feel special and to promote screenings. I'm not just gushing for the sake of it - we made some solid connections with other filmmakers and saw some really good films as well. If you're a filmmaker, do NOT miss this festival next year.

In the end, the icing on the cake was that we were awarded Best Conservation Film! Hoping to get back to Oregon in the next few months for a community screening or two, so stay tuned.

We got to visit some great small towns that would otherwise likely never see The Clean Bin Project (Clearwater, Chase, Merritt, and Clinton). We even squeezed in a visit to the Cache Creek Landfill (Where much of Vancouver's garbage ends up).

The schools were especially amazing. Lots of great questions, open discussions about reusable feminine hygiene, and even a few personal pledges to give up plastic bags or try homemade toothpaste.

One of the highlights was meeting 4 amazing youth in Kamloops; they started their own zero waste blog the day after seeing the film! Check it out at http://nottrashyreport.blogspot.com/

We saw so many great films and got to meet some other filmmakers that I hope we'll keep in touch with. Grant rocked his white pants at the closing night party - his band performed for the evening, and we got some really great feedback both on our film and on the event as a whole. It's such a great feeling to be part of a festival in your own home town, especially one that is so well coordinated and engages the public in such an enthousiastic way.
